Arranging for your newborn portrait session

We will set up a tentative date for about 7 – 10 days after your due date.  This is regardless whether you are due next week or months from now.  As your time gets closer we will stay in touch and adjust the date as needed.  This is more effective than calling when baby is born and trying to set it up at that time.

There is NO DEPOSIT and NO CANCELLATION FEE. If you change your mind for any reason, no problem.  The intent is not to pressure you into a session, just to make sure I’m available for when baby arrives.  If you need to cancel or reschedule please do it as soon as you know, so that another client may book the date being held for you. 

What to have ready

These portraits are usually created with a black background so if the parents wear black as well, the focus remains on your newborn . As we will be at your home, everything else that may be needed during the session you already have.

How the newborn session is structured.

At some time before our session, I will visit so I can see what’s available at your home so we can have a session plan worked out.

A “studio” is set up in your home with backdrops and lighting, anywhere where there is some space.  Portraits will be captured with this setup, then we can move to other areas of your home where you’d like to get shots as well.  (nursery, fireplace, etc.)

Creating these portraits in your home allows us to set up a professional studio session as well as personalized portraits in your baby’s natural environment.

Ideally, your baby will be 7-10 days old when we make these images.

By doing the session in the baby’s first couple of weeks, we are more likely to avoid baby acne, and can expect a more cooperative (sleepy) baby during the session. During this first 7 to 10 days you can expect that wrinkly, tiny baby look which is quickly gone if this small window is missed.

While older than 2 weeks might not be ideal for that tiny-newborn look, every age has different things to offer in the photos.

Once a baby is older than 4-6 weeks old, I prefer doing a Baby Portrait Session when the little ones are over 6 months and able to sit up but not crawl away from the camera. That doesn't mean you can't get great images between newborn and 6 months though.
